Background
Born on Champala into a middling family, from a young age Basal was enthralled by the court system of his home planet due its unusual swiftness and fairness regardless of who was on trial. Seeing the Republic as the perfect democratic instrument through which this ideal of Champalan justice could be spread further, he promised himself that if the Republic ever truly needed him, he’d come to its aid. As he grew older he began to recognize the corruption and inefficiency of the senate of the Republic and became conflicted, but ultimately still held true to his ideals, hoping that the Republic’s democratic system would eventually allow it to save itself. Initially aiming to become a lawyer as an adult, he lacked the proper qualities and was rejected. Soon after, the outbreak of the Separatist Crisis drove him to become an officer for Champala’s local army. The further outbreak of the Clone Wars two years later finally gave him a way to help remedy the inequality and suffering in the rest of the galaxy directly, and he joined the newly formed Grand Army of the Republic as an officer, earning a commission as an army captain after completing training.
Motivation
Justice: Basal is strongly convinced of his sense of right and wrong, and sees the separatists as the greatest current threat to justice in the galaxy. Though he holds no love for the senate, he sees the Republic as the best hope for the Chagrian ideals of justice, equality, and brotherhood to spread.
Duties
Combat Victory: as an officer in the Grand Army of the Republic, Basal aims to defeat the separatists on land through superior tactics and logistics. While he acknowledges the importance of the navy, he has a preference for the army as that allows him to most directly free planets, in his view, from separatist control.
Description
A 25 year old Chagrian, Basal is tall and well built, standing at 192cm tall and weighing roughly 100 kilograms. His horns are black and he can usually be found wearing his armored clothing even when not in the field.
