Background
1.) How did you discover your force sensitivity?
- My older brother, Dash, was obsessed with tales of the mystical Jedi, and he was convinced that my knack for reading people and sensing danger was from more than just our rough upbringing on the streets. He introduced me to the old Togruta storyteller, Zolee, on the outskirts of our section. He seemed to see right through me the moment we locked eyes, and I could "feel" the presence of the Force for the first time.
2.) Describe a moment where you fell prey to your moral weakness or experienced a tragedy/horror that still haunts you.
- I remember the massive turf war that engulfed the streets of my section. I can still hear my brother yelling for me to run as he was lifted into the air by an unseen force, a crimson blade held in front of him by a sickly green Twi'lek. I can still feel the agony as I fled and left my brother behind.
3.) How did you come to join the NJO?
- After the loss of my brother, I spent a good deal of time with Zolee the storyteller. He saw the potential in me and believed I could do more than live a life under the crime lords. Eventually, he was able to get in contact with an old friend Jedi friend of his that resided at the mysterious Jedi Praxeum on Yavin IV, and I was finally able to leave my troubled life behind and start anew as a member of the New Jedi Order.
4. )Name one NPC your character has a strong connection with. This could be a family member, a friend, a work contact, or a bitter rival.
- Other than my brother Dash (who I believe to be dead), my strongest connection would be to Zolee, an old Togruta storyteller who is Force sensitive. He took me under his wing and taught me more about the Force. Zolee also has a good amount of connections and knowledge about the criminal underworld.
5.) Describe a moment in your life where you demonstrated your moral strength despite adversity.
- Our section was notified that a Zabrak had stolen from one of the crime bosses and that anyone that turned him in would be given a weeks worth of rations. I accidentally stumbled upon the scared, young Zabrak while he was on the run. A weeks worth of rations is a kings ransom where I'm from, yet I couldn't bring myself to turn him in for my benefit (despite being nearly starved), so I helped him escape.
In depth Background (completely optional for you to read if you have the time):
Diarmuid Ballister grew up on the dangerous streets of Coruscant with his older brother, Dash. With only each other to depend on, the brothers Ballister survived by any means necessary. As was common for the less fortunate denizens of the streets, they would occasionally turn to working for the local crime lords of their living section, earning their pay as lookouts, scavengers, and contraband runners.
Despite this rough existence, both Diarmuid and Dash were good natured; Diarmuid had a strong sense of compassion, though he struggled with his hatred of the powerful crime lords who took advantage of them. Dash was brave, but he tended to be hot-headed and brash.
Since he was very young, Diarmuid always had a knack for empathy and sensing danger. Dash, being enamored with stories of the mystical Jedi, believed this to be a sign that he was a Jedi, though he had no real knowledge of what that meant. One day, Dash took Diarmuid out to the outskirts of their living section to meet Zolee, and old Togruta storyteller, the one who filled Dash's imagination with all the exploits of the Jedi and the Sith. As Diarmuid got closer to Zolee's hut, he began to feel a strange sensation, as if he was near someone familiar to him. The moment he walked inside Zolee's hut, the old Togruta looked Diarmuid in the eyes, and that familiar sensation grew. For the first time, Diarmuid was able to feel the presence of the Force.
Some months later, there was a massive turf war between rival gangs. Many innocents were caught in the crossfire, and destruction reigned on every corner of their section. In the middle of the battle, Diarmuid began to feel cold and a sense of dread. At that moment, a sickly green Twi'lek with yellow eyes emerged among the army of thugs. With his crimson lightsaber, he cut down numerous people, thug and civilian alike. Diarmuid and Dash were getting cornered with no way out. Dash, as a last ditch effort to save his brother, told Diarmuid that he will distract the Twi'lek so so he could make a run. Despite Diarmuid's protests, Dash handed him his prized necklace made of an unknown crystal, and ran towards the fight. He was able to cut down a few of the thugs, yelling for Diarmuid to make a run for it. He was suddenly lifted off the ground by an unseen force. Diarmuid watched in horror as the Twi'lek stepped out, crimson blade in hand. Not being able to watch what followed, Diarmuid fled and left his brother and the battle behind. The image of the sickly green Twi'lek with the crimson blade still burns in Diarmuid's mind, as does his hatred for him.
In the years following that dreaded battle, or the Crimson War as it was called, Diarmuid spent a good deal of time with Zolee, learning what he could about the Force, Jedi, and the Sith. He still made a living through odd jobs and petty crime, but Zolee saw potential in Diarmuid and wanted more for him. Zolee was eventually able to get in contact with an old Jedi friend of his that resided at the mysterious Jedi Praxeum on Yavin IV. Saving up enough money, Zolee was able to pay a cargo runner to transport Diarmuid to Yavin IV, where he would leave his troubled life behind and start anew as a member of the New Jedi Order.
Beginnings: The Down and Out
Attitude to the Force: One with the Force
Reason For Adventure: With Great Power...
Motivation
Justice/Helping the Helpless:
- I've spent my life on the streets of bustling cities watching as those with power took advantage of those without. How many innocents have suffered because some petty crime lord believed himself above everyone else? Too long have the criminals and followers of the Dark Side strove for power at the expense of others. Too long have they gone unchecked. I feel the Force calling me to right the wrongs of the evil in this world and to help those who are unable to help themselves.
