Background
The Niere Household wields many strokes throughout the Empire; they are traders, bankers, and have a healthy investment in the day-to-day civil operations within the Imperial City. It has a long and decorated lineage of successful merchants, politicians and entertainers; somewhere in this mess of accolades and accomplishments is Terra Niere, youngest of the main family, and a promising student in the University of Coruscant. Unlike her older brothers and sisters -- of which she has five -- Terra was born to a second mother, after her father Mede Niere remarried; she left the planet when she was young, however, and she never got to learn much about her or her background other than her name, 'Nailah'.
This remarriage put Terra at the centre of a lot of gossip; some say her mother was a Rebel spy, others say she believed in such superstition like the Jedi. Her father, Mede, always kept quiet about their relationship, not saying much about their time together or even the reason they had her in the first place. In her household, due to the health defects she growing up, Terra was looked on with a bit of pity and condescension; none of her older siblings believed that she would get up to much, as she wasn't very physically fit and had difficulty concentrating in classes. But she did try, and if there was one thing Terra had in spades, it was persistence.
When Terra grew up, she would sometimes see strange things -- visions of events happening. She'd see herself do house chores and homework; she'd see a cat jump off a tree, or a credstick go missing under the couch. Curiously, as she went through her day, these visions would sometimes tell the truth. She dismissed them as little daydreams, up until a point where she was 15 and received a very painful vision of her schoolbus burning, and children screaming. Terrified out of her wits, she begged her nanny to let her stay home. Later on during the day, she discovered that the schoolbus had an accident -- just as her vision told her; she didn't understand what it meant, she didn't know whether to entertain that she could see the future or whether she was going insane.
She confided with her father over the incident, on the same day, and watched as the man turned pale. He wouldn't give her another word -- and locked himself in his study, busying himself.
Only a few hours later, her father emerged with a grim face and told her to pack a small suitcase and to not ask questions. Perplexed, but in no position to argue, Terra did as she was told; by the time she returned, there was a taxi waiting to take her to the starport with a one-way ticket... out to the fringes of the Empire, someplace. Of course, Terra didn't take what was unfolding before her very well; she begged and screamed and asked her father 'why', but he would not answer her questions. Instead, he told her in a firm and by no means uncertain tone:
"You must leave this house. You must leave this city, this planet. You must leave the Empire, immediately. From now on, you are no Niere. Do not come back, and do not come asking."
Aboard her starflight, tear-stricken, Terra discovered a letter with some credits. Her father had set her up with a contact who would pick her up, solely by the name of 'Jamie', at her destination. She also discovered another strange curio; a seashell-shaped pendant with a faded sepia photo of a faintly familiar woman within it. When she holds it tight, there's a strange tingle in her mind - the same faint tingle as when she receives her visions.
Of course, with all things planned, things never go as expected -- days later, Terra arrived in the rather dusty and well-weathered port, a far cry from the spick and spangle of the Imperial Port's immaculate, dust-free gunmetal hallways. She waited, and she waited... but no one turned up by the name of 'Jamie', even when she asked around. Night had fallen, and she was in a planet she barely caught the name of, exiled and homeless, with only a hundred credits to her name.
What's a sickly 15-year old to do? This galaxy far, far away was certainly not a hospitable one...
Motivation
Terra is the introverted sort, and sheltered as well; her health meant that she spent a lot of time indoors rather than be sporty or social. A lot of what she's seen she sees through a vidscreen, and she particularly abhors violent programmes and news articles, shying away from them. She's big-hearted and kind, but rather understandably naive and innocent about the rough-and-tumble ways of the world out large; she's got a lot to learn, quickly and painfully. She's fond of animals, though she doesn't know if they always respond in kind. Now that she's out in exile and on her own, she knows that she has to be her own person, not just rely on everyone... but how? And where should she even start?
The pendant that Terra's father Mede gave is one start. It tingles with a strange sensation when she focuses on it; the same strange sensation as when she receives visions. Is there a special significance to it? And does that mean that her mother knew something about the visions she's been having? Where is her mother, Nailah, if she's still alive -- and what happened between her and Mede that drove them apart? Was it the Empire, or something else? In a large galaxy with so many unknowns, finding one person may be a practically impossible task. But perhaps not with the invisible bands of the Force tying them together...
Morality
Morality: 50
Strength: Compassion
Terra's biggest strength is the depth of kindness in her heart. It's something she was born with and felt natural about her entire life, and she tries her hardest even for people that would hurt her.
Weakness: Fear
Terra's biggest weakness is her fear - the world is a large and strange one, and she's not used to being in any position of power.
Obligation: 20 - Sickness (requires prescription medicines)
Terra has a multitude of illnesses that require a lot of regular, pesistent treatments. She takes a cocktail of pills twice daily, which puts a strain on her already fragile body and vulnerable immune system, and she requires procedures which take some time to keep herself just behaving normal. Removed from an urban centre's medical specialists, it will get harder and harder for Terra to remain in shot of both the medications and equipment she needs to stay afloat.
Description
Terra doesn't exactly... stand out in a crowd, standing at a terribly petite 5'2" and with a slight build. She doesn't particularly look like a healthy sort, with pale skin; her sickly-white hair is worn long, with a small braid to one side, and her eyes are grayish-blue. Her clothes must look terribly out of place in the fringe she wanders around in -- they're too neat, too expensive, and too clean for her to have been a native in these planetary systems for long. She doesn't look to have any armaments about her either -- no blaster, no boot-strapped knife, nothing. Not exactly the kind of look you want to be presenting in these parts of the galaxy.
