Background
Roland’s Story:
Few know the home world of Roland and his people. The Ganks hail from the hidden planet Gilead, located in the Midworld system, deep within the Unknown Regions. Although the planet is relatively small, it is home to one of the most feared species in the universe.
On Gilead every Gank must complete a bloody rite of passage during their 18th year. This trial determines whether they will be recognized as a true Gank, or die as a weakling. Although it is seen as a form of role selection, every true Gank is a warrior first. The choice comes in what form you will take your foes life. Melee weapons? Ranged weapons? Cybernetic weapons? Ganks are known for being more machine than man by the time they become an adult. Any improvement in the slightest to their ability to kill and be victorious is worth it, even if that means losing more of yourself in the process.
The Deschain family is a highborn bloodline leading all the way to the original house of Eld. Roland's father,Steven Deschain, was the "Dinh" or leader of their great city on Gilead. He was also one of the best Gunslingers to have ever lived.
Steven was in the midst of quelling a rebellion led by a man named John Farson when he discovered the existence of spies within his own walls. One spy in particular Marten Broadcloak, his fathers most trusted adviser, sought to end Steven and Roland at the same time and thus end the line of Eld once and for all.
Roland gained notoriety as a gunslinger at the unheard-of age of 14, after being manipulated into taking the Gank rite of passage by Broadcloak. After blatantly seducing Roland's mother, Marten made sure Roland would find out. He knew this would push Roland to request his trial early in order to gain his 'family weapon' and exact revenge on Marten. In order to pass the trial, Roland would have to defeat his teacher, Cort, using any weapon of his choosing. He chose apprentice blasters, and made swift work of Cort. He would let nothing keep him from carrying his father’s Blasters. Despite Roland's victory, Roland's father convinced him to bide his time before seeking retribution.
When the time for revenge was at hand Roland fired his father's blasters straight into the back of Marten Broadcloak. To Roland's utter disbelief, Marten spun around completely unharmed. Marten then reached out to Roland in an odd manner. Roland felt himself being lifted by what could only be the force, and was slung against the wall so hard he blacked out. When Roland awoke he found himself drifting through space on an overcrowded merchant ship bound for Nar Shaddaa.
Upon the ships arrival at port, Roland was detained for 'stowing away'. Using this as an excuse to force him into their employ, the emissaries of Jabba the Hutt purchased his debt and held it over him for his services. Roland, ever the opportunist, found many benefits to working for Jabba. Not only was he able to learn much about the galaxy, he picked up invaluable skills.
After several years had passed, Jabba extended Roland's contract by funding the replacement of his legs with cybernetics. These greatly increased Roland's speed and reaction time, which in turn increased his other skills.
Now with most of his debts behind him, Roland chooses his own jobs, and completes them with ruthless efficiency.
